PINGAO PLANTING
Kelly from DOC visited our school and showed us why our dune country is so important. She asked for our help to collect pingao seeds, so she could take them back to DOC and nurture them into seedlings that could be planted in dune country in about 18 months time.
Here is a slide show of the process we went through - Well Done Seniors - Lending a helping hand so future generations can appreciate what we have now.....

The Green Rig

3/4th August saw an impressive looking rig pull up outside our awesome school. It was the Green Rig - with the purpose of educating our future generations about all things 'nature'. John shared with us a lot of interesting information about our native creatures and pests that have a negative impact on their survival. We also discussed how to prepare for a natural disaster, such as flooding. Our class had a great time exploring many of the interactive activities on the rig.
If you ever get the opportunity to visit the green rig at community events - we highly recommend it.

The Great Rugby Robbery

New Zealand Playhouse visited our school today. It started with a trek down to Oroua Downs Hall and watched it fill with bodies - Glen Oroua and Sanson joined us too - it was quite weird looking at the hall with some many children in it.

What a fantastic show - funny, interactive and clever use of a small stage by some very talented actors. Have a look at the slide show - not the best photography but you will get the idea.

Opiki Sports Echange

The weather was great, the teams were nervous. We played soccer, netball and rugby. Although we didn't win any games we showed great determination, sportsmanship and had a great time. Thanks to all our supporters on the day.

Here are a few pics of the rugby and soccer - sorry no netball shots.

Technology

Just a few snapshots of our awesome class. working hard during technology.

We are working on creating masterpieces in woodwork (hard materials) such as birdhouses.

In our art class we are creating an items form recycled materials.

Enjoy watching creativity at work. Keep up the great efforts Room One!!!

Senior Camp

This year we were lucky enough to go to two venues - Vertical Horizon in Taranaki and YMCA Raukawa in the National Park. We had a mixed week of weather, almost four seasons in one day, but the kids and parents made the most of the opportunities we had. We took part in the flying kiwi, high ropes, climbing walls, zip line, sight seeing, pranking each other, kayaking, grass karts, archery and general fun times. A huge thanks to the kids for a great week and the parents for all their help.
Here is a slideshow of a few pics that Bruce Gunn took - capturing the emotions and fear when up high and the smiles when creating lifelong memories. Hope you enjoy....
